Dental Hygiene | Remove Plaque And Tartar At Home
Teeth, the singular tooth, generally means a structure found in jaws. The roots of teeth are covered by gums. Moreover, teeth are not always attached to the jaw, as they are in mammals. In many reptiles and fish, they are attached to the palate or to the floor of the mouth, forming additional rows inside those on the jaws proper.
Let’s discuss the problems that human teeth face and the ways to overcome those problems. Above is the picture of perfect smile that I shared with you guys. Unfortunately, not everyone has this perfect smile as the majority of us is facing teeth plaque.
A plaque is a sticky colorless film of bacteria that constantly forms on our teeth and along the gum line. It occurs due to the following reasons:
- When someone does not brush their teeth properly after the meal.
- Soft drinks or candy are frequently left in the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods, producing acids as a result.
- Dry mouth also creates plaque as dry mouth is caused by a lack of saliva. Saliva has an important role in preventing tooth decay. It washes away food and plaque from your teeth.
- If you frequently snack or sip sodas, acid has more time to attack your teeth and wear them down.
- Bottled water contains bacteria as it is not frequently washed so it contains fluoride which destroys tooth enamel.
Teeth affected by plaque looks like this.
However, there are some foods which cause teeth plaque and I would recommend you guys to decrease the intake of such foods. these These include:
- Sour Candies
- Think twice as you walk down the supermarket bread aisle
- Carbonated Drinks.
- Potato Chips
- Dried Fruits
1- Brushing Teeth Regularly
Brush at least twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush, paying close attention to all surfaces of the teeth and your tongue.
Using about 18 inches (45.7 centimeters) of floss wrapped around your index fingers — to get between all your teeth and behind your very back teeth (if you’re flossing correctly, it should take you about 3 to 5 minutes).
Apart from brushing and flossing, a good swish of mouthwash can disinfect your mouth. Be warned, many mouthwashes have high alcohol content. Mouthwash gives you fresh breath and it fights against plaque for at least 8 hours.
4- Eat Veggies
The Veggies are amazing. They’re low in sugar and acid, so they won’t cause plaque or stains, and if they’re crunchy, the chewing motion will physically brush your teeth.
5- Professional Cleaning
Last but not the least, visit your doctor regularly. as he will advise you thorough cleaning will identify any trouble spots, tooth decay and gum disease in its tracks. If you’re particularly prone to plaque attacks, your dentist can also apply a thin coating of sealant to the chewing surfaces of your teeth.
